Shadowfax International is a well-established UK company providing high-quality cane furniture to customers with the UK and overseas.

Our History

During an extensive evaluation of Indonesian cane factories, Barry Gilbert was introduced to a team of master craftsmen who had set up a small manufacturing operation which designed and created handmade cane furniture. Barry was greatly impressed with the quality and style of their furniture.

After much discussion, it was decided to set up a partnership, creating a large production facility in Indonesia called Apiko Rattan and a distribution facility in the UK managed by Shadowfax International Limited to promote their unique range of products. Through specialist and high-street retailers, Shadowfax cane suites now enjoy pride of place in lounges, sitting rooms, conservatories, summer houses, gardens, receptions and resturants amongst many other domestic and commercial spaces.

Handmade by Indonesian Craftsmen

All our cane furniture has been built by local Indonesian furniture craftsmen using indigenous raw materials. Then to ensure consistency of design, each suite is rigorously examined by our internal quality control team. Only when they are fully satisfied, the suites are forwarded to our finishing team where the product is dyed and coated and checked against standards to ensure a consistently high-grade finish and colour matching.

Ethical Policy

In a world where there are so many abuses of human rights by international companies, we have always recognized that healthy happy workers are core to a successful business. Our production facility has a friendly atmosphere and regular social events are arranged so that the team can get to know one another and learn more about the international nature of our business giving them a sense of pride in their work.

Since the very first day we opened our cane production facilities in Indonesia, we have made the welfare of our team a priority. Craftsmen and other support workers are well rewarded for their skills and dedication and we have a comprehensive medical insurance programme which protects the well-being of our team during times of illness.

Sustainable Materials

Cane and rattan are materials indigenous to tropical regions like South-East Asia. Our cane and rattan is hand-harvested from readily-sustainable abundant sources which grow prolifically. This provided us with eco-friendly materials which are expectionally strong and ideal for making beautiful furniture.
